Kingdom Principles

Scripture: Luke 13:181-9
"Then Jesus said, “What is the Kingdom of God like? How can I illustrate it? 19 It is like a tiny mustard seed that a man planted in a garden; it grows and becomes a tree, and the birds make nests in its branches. 20 He also asked, “What else is the Kingdom of God like? 21 It is like the yeast a woman used in making bread. Even though she put only a little yeast in three measures of flour, it permeated every part of the dough.”

Observations:
When Jesus talked about the Kingdom of God, He explained that although God's purposes and His plans are huge, from a purely human perspective they never start out that way. Like a seed that goes in the ground or yeast put in some dough, at first there's just not much to look at. No one is impressed and most people don't even notice. But even the smallest things can become significant in the eyes of both man and God when it has to do with the spreading of His Kingdom. The only reason a farmer or a baker would even both paying the slightest bit of attention to things that at first are virtually invisible and and insignificant is because they understand the principles behind how they grow. In the very same way, God's Kingdom operates by certain principles that He set in place to cause His Kingdom to grow.

Application:
Anything we ever set out to do for God is most always going to look small and insignificant at first. But just like a good farmer or baker understands the basic principles of nature, we as believers understand that God is fully commited to the spreading of His Kingdom in the earth in and through our lives. He has big plans that may seem impossible and at the moment perhaps are invisible even to us. But although we don't see how or even fully understand why, we simply trust in the fact that "He who began a good work...will be faithful to complete it." (Philippians 1:6). It may not happen overnight. In fact, it probably will not. But our job is not to make it happen, but rather to "follow teh example of those who through faith and patience received the promises of God." (Hebrews 6:12). As we faithfully do our part, God promises to do His (1 Corinthians 3:7). If we simply refuse to give up, we are assured that "At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up." (Galatians 6:9).

Prayer:
Father, help us today to hang in there and to not be discouraged by what we can see with our natural eyes. Give us the eyes of faith so that we can see the big picture of how You are working all around us and building Your Kingdom in and through our lives. Help us to stay faithful in the work You have called us to do for Your Kingdom. Amen.
