God Won't Give Up (Ezekiel 16:59-62)

59 “Now this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will give you what you deserve, for you have taken your solemn vows lightly by breaking your covenant. Yet I will remember the covenant I made with you when you were young, and I will establish an everlasting covenant with you. Then you will remember with shame all the evil you have done...and you will know that I am the Lord." In Ezekiel 17 God is pretty graphic in his rebuke to Israel for their sins. He basically compares his people's sins to reverse prostitution (vs. 33) saying that they offer themselves to as many people as possible and even pay them for it! What exactly were they doing to get such a vile reputation? God outlines their many sins in detail: worshiping things other than Him, killing their children and offering them as human sacrifices, pride, gluttony, laziness, neglecting the poor, etc. He even goes so far as to say they were actually worse than Sodom (vs. 48)! Their sin was blatant a rebellion they knew was...

Successful Living

"Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do. Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. (Joshua 1:7, 8 NLT) This verse has it all. It's an amazing promise of prosperity and success. If someone were to sit you down and offer you guaranteed success at life, you'd probably think he was selling something. Here's how it works: God wrote a book (a series actually) in which He writes in detail how you can: overcome obstacles, develop impeccable character, earn trust with others, be a blessing to the world, improve your marriage, defeat temptation, make wise decisions, live longer, and experience ...

God Delivers

Galatians 6:9 (NLT) God's promises are true by themselves with or without our belief in them. God promises are, however, sometimes conditional upon our response. For instance, Galatians 6:9 "So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up." The Promise: You will reap. The Condition: If you don't grow wear in doing right. But the reality is, sometimes we do grow weary and we simply have no more strength left and God's promises seem a far off and out of reach. But then I remember that while most of God's promises require a fit response, they are not dependent upon my ability but on His. For instance, Isaiah 40:31 "But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint." All of God's Word is connect by a common thread- faith in the God who is able to deliver...
