What Are You Waiting For? (Joshua 17:13-18)

"Later, however, when the Israelites became strong enough, they forced the Canaanites to work as slaves. But they did not drive them out of the land. The descendants of Joseph came to Joshua and asked, “Why have you given us only one portion of land as our homeland when the Lord has blessed us with so many people?” Joshua replied, “If there are so many of you, and if the hill country of Ephraim is not large enough for you, clear out land for yourselves in the forest where the Perizzites and Rephaites live.” The descendants of Joseph responded, “It’s true that the hill country is not large enough for us. But all the Canaanites in the lowlands have iron chariots, both those in Beth-shan and its surrounding settlements and those in the valley of Jezreel. They are too strong for us.” Then Joshua said to the tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh, the descendants of Joseph, “Since you are so large and strong, you will be given more than one portion. God is still God, even in exile (quarantine)

I know things are kinda upside down right now, but I wanted to encourage you with this thought. Once upon a time the people of Israel were suddenly taken away to Babylon in exile. Everything they once knew was gone and for many of them they felt like God had all but abandoned them. But God wasn't surprised or caught off guard. He was still absolutely in control.  Although they spent 70 years in exile, often God stepped in and had to remind them of who they were and whose they were and that although their circumstances had changed, He had not. God wasn't done. He still had a plan and a story to tell through them. In this darkest time of Israel's existence when there was ...

Rhetorical Rabbai (John 6:5-6)

"Jesus soon saw a huge crowd of people coming to look for him. Turning to Philip, he asked, “Where can we buy bread to feed all these people?” He was testing Philip, for he already knew what he was going to do." (John 6:5, 6 NLT) One day during a big crusade, a rather large crowd showed up to see Jesus. The disciples were suddenly outnumbered 10:1. Feeling a bit overwhelmed, Jesus decides to throw a wrench in the dinner plans by asking Phillip an unexpected question. Jesus puts Phillip on the spot by asking for an immediate solution to an unexpected "problem". Like a deer caught in headlights, Phillip and the other disciples freeze in a quick panic over Jesus' request. He had asked a question with an impossible answer. What's interesting though is that verse 6 points out that Jesus wasn't looking for a solution for His sake. It points out that He already had a plan and knew what to do. So what's the deal Jesus? Why you gotta mess with Phillip? He w...
