What is God looking for?
There are only a handful of times throughout Scripture where God is said to be looking for something. Since God in Himself is clearly all-sufficient and needs nothing, when He is said to be searching for something it is not so much for His benefit as it is for ours.
1. God is looking for people who have lost their way in life.
"For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.” (Luke 19:10 NLT)
God rejoices when lost people stop and ask Him for direction because He always knows the way (John 14:6).
2. God is looking for wholehearted worship
"But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and dtruth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him." (John 4:23 NLT)
God doesn't need our worship to be complete; we however we're made to find our completeness in Him (Colossians 2:10)
3. God is looking for uncompromising loyalty.
"The eyes of the LORD search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him...” (2 Chronicles 16:9 NLT)
God stands ready and willing to empower those whose hearts are fully surrendered to Him. Surrendering completely is the first and greatest commandment (Mark 12:30-31).
4. God is looking for others to join His mission.
“I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one. (Ezekiel 22:30 NIV)
Life is not just about is. We have all been called to give away freely the grace we have been given (Matthew 10:8).
