If Moses Were On TBN (Deuteronomy 6:10-12)

“The Lord your God will soon bring you into the land he swore to give you when he made a vow to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. It is a land with large, prosperous cities that you did not build. The houses will be richly stocked with goods you did not produce. You will draw water from cisterns you did not dig, and you will eat from vineyards and olive trees you did not plant. When you have eaten your fill in this land, be careful not to forget the Lord, who rescued you from slavery in the land of Egypt. (Deuteronomy 6:10-12 NLT)

On the cusp of entering the Promised Land, Moses delivered a few last instructions for the Israelites. His sermon went something like this:

"God's about to make good on everything He ever promised you. I know it seems like its been a very, very long time, but I assure you that your eyes are about to see it happen. You're gonna be amazed at God's goodness! Your lives are going to overflow with blessings!"

I can almost picture Moses, like a sweaty TV evangelist, preparing to ask for the Israelites to send him a love offering in the mail as if he was nothing more than a greedy prosperity preacher. But nothing could be farther than the truth.

Instead of asking for personal gain, in verse (12) he highlighted one of the most ignored principles in Scripture: "DON'T FORGET".

As you can imagine, everything Moses said came true. The Israelites saw God vanquish their enemies and give them the fullness of the richest, most sought after piece of real estate on earth. They became rich and satisfied because of The Lord God who was faithful to keep His promises.

However, the danger behind every God-given blessing is that it brings with it the temptation for us to embrace the gift and ignore the Giver. More times than nought, the moment our need disappears, so does our hunger for God.

Of course, Moses was spot on. The Israelites did forget The Lord. Not immediately, but gradually. Within a generation they had abandoned the one who had so richly satisfied them with good things.

The lesson here is simple but significant- NEVER FORGET. In all our getting we must be careful to remember that our help comes from The Lord (Psalm 121:2) and that every good and perfect gift comes from the grace of our Heavenly Father above (James 1:16). Without Him we have nothing and can do nothing (John 15:4-5).

There's no greater tragedy in life than for a child of God to forget The Lord who bought them (2 Peter 2:1). But the reality is that we are all capable of it. Before we take another breath, let's remember that today and all of it's blessings are a gift from The Lord and that every good thing in our lives is the work of His hand.
