Do Something About It

Scripture: Mark 2:2-5
"2 Soon the house where he was staying was so packed with visitors that there was no more room, even outside the door. While he was preaching God’s word to them, 3 four men arrived carrying a paralyzed man on a mat. 4 They couldn’t bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, so they dug a hole through the roof above his head. Then they lowered the man on his mat, right down in front of Jesus. 5 Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “My child, your sins are forgiven.”

Observations:
The four men in this story did something so noteworthy that their actions found a place in the eternal record of God's Word in order to provide an excellent example for others to follow. These four men all had one thing in common- a man with a very serious need in his life. Not only was he paralyzed but he also desperately needed God's forgiveness. All four men saw a need in the life of someone they knew and decided to do something about it- they decided to bring him to Jesus. There was no way the paralyzed man was going to get to Jesus himself so they carried him there and even when they got there they didn't give up easily just because it looked like an impossible situation. They were determined on behalf of their friend enough to do something about it. At any point in the story had these guys decided it just wasn't worth it, the paralyzed man would never have experienced the life changing power of Christ to heal and forgive.

Application:
Our world is full of people all around us who need what Jesus came to bring them (healing, forgiveness, truth, direction, restoration, peace, eternal life, etc.) but the roadblocks in their lives caused by sin make it virtually impossible for them to find their way to Christ on their own. They need someone in their lives who recognizes their need and cares enough to do something about it. We may not have the resources to help them but we can all do our part to not only point them to Him but together as believers we can partner with one another for the purpose of bringing them to a place where they can encounter the living Son of God and experience His power to meet their greatest need. We must decide today to not let any obstacle stand in our way when it comes to leading the people in our lives to Jesus. Their eternal destinies are in our hands today. We can become part of the solution by doing our part to recognize the needs of those around us and allow God's compassion to motivate us towards doing everything in our power to introduce them to the One they need most by refusing to take no for an answer.

Prayer:
Father, give us your eyes today to see the hurts and needs of the broken people in our world and the determination of Your compassion to do whatever it takes to reach them. Make us tenacious with Your love and mercy to those who reject You. Give us new motivation today to extend Your hands of grace to lift up those with the greatest needs and do our very best to lead them to You. Amen.
